Why to use DHTML

Hi

while going through the DHTML tutorials , it is mentioned that

DHTML is NOT a language or a web standard.

DHTML means the combination of HTML, JavaScript, DOM and CSS.

If this is the case can anybody please tell me what is the reason for using DHTML ??
