Hello,

While using ASYNC feature of log4j do we have to setup JMS separately for this or is the support for async logging built in for Log4j . Any tutorials or pointers would be very helpful

Thanks and Regards

You are planning on using the AsyncAppender? If so, that is handled entirely within log4j, no JMS config is needed. The AsyncAppender works by creating a buffer that the log statements write to, and the appender(s) runs on a separate thread reading the buffer and writing the statements to their final location(s).

Thanks Peter.

How do we monitor this buffer then and how to ensure that the logging is happening properly.

I googled AsyncAppender and found this: http://glueclue.blogspot.com/2007/01/log4j-asyncappender-is-not-always_31.html

There’s no place like 127.0.0.1. But I'll always remember this tiny ad:
