Interupting a submit button call

Hi ,

I am having a Form in my JSP page . Currently ,the Form is consisting of two TextFields , and a submit button .

The submit button is of

<input type="submit""/>

Upon click of a submit button , is it possible to do any operation what i mean is call any function written in script ??
