I have an interesting problem and I'm trying to figure out if it is a Java problem or a Windows problem.

I'm setting up a Ping Secure Token Server (STS) and I wrote a simple Swing app to enter name/password and display the SAML token returned. When I run this on my Windows machine ( Java 1.6_17) I get a proxy forbidden runtime exception. When I run the exact same code as a command line app on the Windows machine, it works. When I run the Swing app on a Linux machine it works. Because the Ping server is local, it should not hit the proxy because of the network settings.

I have changed the network settings in the Java Console. They were set to Browser ( which should work) and set to direct connect. Did nothing. I tried added the proxy and port via System.httpsHost and httpsPort property settings.

so for any Swing Guru, Is there a problem with Swing not dealing with the proxy settings of the console?
