Hi everybody,
I have been working on a jsp project which included interaction with the database using JDBC ,SQL and a little bit of javascript for validation. Now I have come to know about EL and JSTL

Why should I use EL and JSTL ? I am just doing fine without them. Jsp has the facility of custom tag definition. So why to go for JSTL?

Having said that let me inform that if they are important and good in web-development then I am eager to learn them.

Thanks to everyone.

With all those scriptlets, scriptlet expressions etc... ? Then that's very bad practice. JSP meant to be the view, so for page authors of JSPs are given the EL, JSTL etc.. to make their life easier (i.e: avoid writing Java code inside the JSPs).

JSTL implements set of common tags, if you need beyond that then you need custom tags. Checkout the JspFaq section for more info.

Scriptlets and their ilk are over 8 years out of date at this point. The benefits of JSTL/EL over scriptlets has been discussed dozens of times in this forum, so I won't repeat all that and will just put it this way... you want to be employable?
