What happens to session object when session expires

Hi all,
Does the implicit session object within a JSP become null when the session expires? Meaning that do I need to null check it my code.

If a session expires, a new one will be established during JSP processing.

You may use getSession(false) to ensure existing sessions are returned. Null is returned if there is no existing session

There is never "no existing session" in a JSP.
