guys,

How can I create a shortcut for some of my programs on the Desktop of Ubuntu. For example, I have IntelliJ installed on /opt/Softwares and I want to open it each time simply by double clicking the icon that we normally do in Windows. Suggestions? Is creating soft links the way to go?

Two possibilities:

a) If the app is in the Applications menu, go to the app and right click on it and select "Add the launcher to desktop".

b) Open a terminal, cd to ~/Desktop and use ln-s to create a symbolic link.

I guess I would go the symbolic link way. Thanks!
