Glassfish & Java System Application Server

Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me the names Java System Application Server and Glassfish refer the same server or are they two different servers ? I was using tomcat and new to these.

Hi Thamali,

welcome to the JavaRanch

Tomcat is "only" a Servlet container. Application servers typically offer more components and services like transaction handling or an EJB container. Glassfish is just one well-known open source application server, but there are many other application servers as well.

Actually this is what made me confused when I saw it in sun site. I'm using some servlet tutorials from SAI and I'm supposed to use Sun Java System Application Server but when I searched for that only GlassFish is there and I saw this quote
