Hello.. myself Daniel Jeevan from Cochin, India... i m planning to write SCJP 1.5 within two months.. already started preparing with K&B book...

is it necessary to keep a deadline(like 2 months time).. & from where will i get programs to work out with.. K&B book offers only some tiny programs as n example for each.. i have completed first two chapters in the book.. please tell me is it possible to write the exam within a month if i am ready to work hard.. i have considerable knowledge in programming in c.. and quite new with java.. but able to learn java really fast.. not that hard for me..

Daniel,
Welcome to Javaranch!

Please do not post in all capital letters. Read this.

Now about your query, you can refer the SCJP FAQ and the pre exam essentials. In the SCJP FAQ, you will find everything you need related to the preparation for the certification.

HI Daniel,
This has been discussed a lot of time on the forum you should search and you should go for scjp6 there is no difference in both just 2 or 3 things added and a few things removed from objectives in scjp 6. The new things added can be easily understood and learned they are not tough then why do you want to go for an older version when you can get a new with the same or just a little bit more effort.

This is not correct. You can directly go for SCJP 6, we highly recommend people to go directly for SCJP 6, why should you give SCJP 1.5 first and then give the upgrade exam when you can give SCJP 6 directly??

I guess its a typo and you wanted to say "not to take 1.6", but trust its not at all hard. both scjp 1.5 and 1.6 have same difficulty level. There is an upgrade exam, but I guess its useful for those who have given scjp 1.5 before scjp 6 was introduced. now you can directly go for scjp 6 and I would suggest you to do that. One more thing, why chose scjp 1.5 and pay twice one for scjp 1.5 and then for upgrade exam.

Did he suggest you to not take 1.5 or 6 first?

Ankit is right.
Plus, according to this link, the SCJP 5.0 costs Rs. 7200, the same as SCJP 6. And the upgrade exam costs another Rs. 4800. So, if you take SCJP 5.0 and then upgrade to SCJP 6, you would be spending a total of Rs. 12000. Why do you want that?

my friend suggested to take 1.5 exam first.. anyways i will consider what you said.. i will go for 1.6 directly.. still a long way to go.. i m preparing with kathy sierra and Bert bates book.. its a great book.. good for beginner like me.. is there any other such books or resouces.. or is it better to stick with one book at a time..

i am very excited about this forum.. i am getting instant responses... thanks a lot..

people use khalid mughal but I would say K&B is just enough for the exam. apart from tht you need to solve a lot of mock exams, write a lot of code and read API's of all important classes like StringXXX, String, collection classes, threads etc.
this will be enough to pass the exam with a good score, atleast I did it.
