when is the servlet loaded first? is it when the first client sends its first request? is this always the case?

It can be either at first client request or on Container start up.

If we set the load-on-startup value for a servlet, it will be loaded when the container starts or the application is deployed. If we don't provide the load-on-startup value, the servlet is usually loaded when a request is received for the servlet...
