"Never let your sense of morals get in the way of doing what's right"

Does anyone think it passing wrong message to community?

This is a questions about ethics vs. morals. For example, it may be considered immoral for a girl who is living in a very conservative society to wear revealing clothes but if she feels the right thing to do is to wear them, because she is no less than a man, then she by all means should. What the quote is trying to say is, that if you feel it right to wear revealing clothes but society disapproves, do it anyway.

Hey Arvind, nice explanation.

After reading this quote I thought of this example which is related to business.

We have "Nirma" detergent in India and let's say its price is 50 INR/KG. Now let's say China also started to sell the same type of detergent but with half of the price of Nirma. Ofcourse with inferior quality. This is called dumping. In turn the market of Nirma will definitely get affected.

So the way I am correlating the quote is, even though X knows that Y is immoral to do X will do it because X feels that it is right.

No. I think its the opposite. Morality is something which should come from within. There would be many factors pushing and pulling on what you would consider moral or immoral, the strongest one being religion. In some religions, disciplining your spouse could be considered moral. Whether this is ethical, if we use ethics to mean a standard with which to behave, at a broader level or not, I don't know. Morality defines what is good and acceptable behavior of a society. Ethics is the standard and codification of each individual's morality at a collective level.
For example, lets say you are stranded on a deserted island and you get the urge to have sex with a dead animal. There is nothing unethical about this because you are the only one on that island and so no standard exists for how one should behave and act - you are the standard, but at the same time you are choosing to indulge in something immoral, I would think. Because morality is from within, you can still choose to live a moral or immoral life even if you are the only one there.
