With Spring scheduling, do you see any real use case for Quartz? If so, what would your recommendations be for when to use either?

Quartz? Yes, absolutely. But directly using Quartz? Not so sure. Consider this example of how to use scheduling in Spring 3:

First, in the Spring configuration (Using the new "task" configuration namespace)...

Then on the method you want scheduled...

To invoke doSomething() at midnight every night. Or if you want it to kick off every 5 minutes...

Couldn't be simpler.

I absolutely agree that Spring's new scheduling capabilities are easy to use. But, what do you mean by "directly using Quartz"? The new scheduling capabilities in Spring doesn't have anything to do with Quartz? My question was whether you see any good usecases where Quartz is better than the new scheduling capabilities, as I don't

Ah...right...I was mistaken in thinking that the new stuff uses Quartz under the covers (I should never answer these things before I've had my morning caffeine). You're right...Quartz is not involved.

So...no...I can't see any value in Quartz given Spring 3's new scheduling stuff. That's not to say that there isn't any value...I just don't see it. I welcome someone to tell me otherwise.
