SCJD Registration question

Hi everyone! First of all I would like to thank all of you for helping me passing SCJP 6 examination with 91%!

Now I would like to register for SCJD examination and I have few questions:

First of all how does registration process depend on the country you live/want to take the essay exam? It seems like there are some big reorganizations going on with Sun's website since acquisition by Oracle, so there are frequent updates. Before for every country there was a separate website and you could register for a given country and their appropriate price, and now it seems to me that there is only once place for registering for assignment, and later you can register for an essay wherever you want. Is this true?
My main purpose of getting interested in this was because prices for exams in different countries varied. I reside in Germany, and last time I checked Sun's training website for Germany, the price for SCJD assignment exam was at around 350€, when in Spain and Portugal the same exam was for 240€. The essay was 235€ in Germany and 240 in Spain and Portugal, so overall it would worth for me to actually register for an examination in Spain and travel there with Ryanair to give examination and see beautiful places
So how does overall registration process work now? Can someone please give me a clue?

I tried but after creating account on prometric.com
the only exam I can choose is 310-301A - Sun Certified Enterprise Architect EE5 Assignment (Part II) - English (US) - $125.00 USD
but I would like to see CX-310-252A exam there

Price now is $125.00 USD..are they changing it again and again?

No, I did not proceed to registration, since my question about counties is unanswered

I did see the price of 125$ for SCJD assignment though, and I am surprised with it Did they really drop the price from 300$ to 125$? Unbelievable..

First page indicates assignment exam costs 90 Euros, second one says 350 Euros.

Should I just wait until Sun-Oracle transition is done?

I can't answer your initial question (because my former company paid the vouchers and registration was in 2007), but what will you do if you are on holiday in Spain, planned your essay exam and then the exam is cancelled for some reason? When I wanted to take my SCJP6 at the end of last year they had to cancel my exam (because the exam center had to close unexpectedly). So reschedule and plan another exam in Spain?

According to the Sun Certification page on the Oracle University the 1st part is 125 us dollars and the 2nd part is 300 us dollars. If you visit the Sun page on Prometric site you can have a look at the exam fees for the different exams in different countries: part 2 of the exam is approx 235-240 euros (in belgium, germany and spain).

I would suggest trying to contact the sun educational services of germany and trying to get answers on your questions, so you are 100% sure about what you can do and can't do.

I just tried to register for the SCJD exam and only saw 310-301A as an option. I emailed Prometric's help desk and received a response that said

OK, this exam is currently offline. You may need to contact SUN directly to confirm when the exam will be available. Here is the e-mail address:

I'm experiencing the same issue with regards to registering for the SCJD exam...only the Enterprise Architect EE5 Assignment (Part II) is available.

I emailed [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected] over the last week, but I've had no replies from any of them.

I actually did not consider this case, but that could be an excuse for one more vacation in Spain

I called them now, they are only available at working times, so I will try again on monday. I just hope they speak English, cause my German is very limited

We are sorry for the delay in replying to your mail, the responses have been delayed due to the Oracle /Sun migration.

We also apologize for the delay in this assignment process, but we are moving this registration and download to Prometric. We are currently still ironing out the details and we will send you further instructions as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

So here are updates : They told me they have not moved to oracle system yet, so the price in Germany Sun website is correct ( 380€ ). And they also told me that I have to give the essay in the country I registered for the exam, thus if I register in Germany, I have to give essay in Germany.

I guess I will wait a bit with registration, maybe Oracle migration will complete in Germany as well, since I really don't feel like paying 380€ when in US price is 125$ (95€).

So here is another URL, http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/sun_select_country.html, here if you mouse over links for every country, you can see where they redirect, Sun website, or Oracle. As I see, migration is complete in US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand only, and in other countries its still old Sun.

I'm from South-Africa and I am having the same problems. Sun and Oracle have not migrated in SA yet which makes things even more complicated.

I found 2 places to buy the SCJD voucher for Step 1 from. Oracle charges R1065 (South-African Rand, excl. VAT), while Sun South-Africa charges R1900. So I emailed the Sun South-Africa representative to clear this up and she replied:

Kindly be advised that there is a delay in the processing of SCJD Step 1 (Assignment) due to the migration from SUN to Oracle systems.

Sun Certification should still be purchased from SUN in the Sub-Sahara Africa region, until Oracle & SUN SSA are legally intergrated.

I don't know if you will consider this "hijacking" your thread, but I took the essay exam on February 10th. I haven't heard whether or not I have been awarded the SCJD certification, nor have I heard about my score on the SCJD assignment. It is going on 7 weeks since I submitted the assignment and took the essay exam. I don't know if anyone has noticed, but no one has posted their results for the SCJD certification on JavaRanch since the beginning of February.

I'm not even sure that Oracle is presently grading the assignments that they are receiving. I write emails to [email protected] and they return form letters with platitudes.

Does this mean I can just ignore existence of German Sun training, and simply register for an assignment through Oracle and then just give examination through prometric?

Hi everyone, I have some updates :

So right now German Oracle Training website is saying that price is 215€ and clearly states that "Candidates no longer need to purchase vouchers prior to taking an exam. Please pay Prometric directly for your exam during registration."

On contrary German Sun Training Website is selling a voucher which is 380€. (Is it selling a voucher or an actual exam registration? Please anyone knowing German help me )

If I call German Sun Training, they tell me transition is not complete so you still have to buy it from German Sun Training because you reside in Germany. (Reside? I thought SCJD is internet-based exam, how on earth does it matter where I reside??)

My logic tells me right now that I can ignore what German Sun training said, and simply register from https://ibt1.prometric.com/index.asp?ibt=9217340350&, and after that purchase essay examination from prometric, where I believe they should not have problems with me being in Germany, Brazil or anywhere in the world.
