Authors,

Is this book the new version of the already existing Pro EJB 3.0? I'm a big fan of the Pro EJB 3.0 book!

Hi Jothi,

Yes, this is a new edition of that book that includes some new chapters and all of the new JPA 2.0 material. If you liked Pro EJB 3 and want to learn the JPA 2 features then I suppose this is the book for you. (In fact, since there are no other books about JPA 2 then I guess this is the book for you anyway!)

Thanks for the reply. But one thing I noticed in the previous version of your Pro EJB 3 book is that the examples mentioned in the book mostly deals with EJB and calling the entities from within the EJB. How does this get addressed in "Pro JPA 2"? Are the examples EJB driven?

Except for Chapter 3, where we talk about the enterprise components, most of the examples have nothing to do with EJB. If there needs to be an injected EM to illustrate something then we will use a stateless session EJB, but of course if you take away the @Stateless annotation then it might as well be a Spring bean or any other injectable bean that supports transactions and the @PersistenceContext annotation (in fact, Spring even has support for @Stateless). There is nothing in this book that ties you to EJBs. However, we do show in chapter 3 how using EJBs can make life super easy.
