Once you've signed up as per the instructions here

Send the first submission for each assignment to nitpick at javaranch dot com
We will assign a nitpicker to you for that assignment, with whom you will communicate directly until they send you the instructor's solution.

Send only one assignment at a time
Wait until you receive the instructor's solution for the previous assignment before sending in the next one.

Use a subject line in the following format: [cattle drive] Assignment X
This helps when searching and filtering. Please do not change the subject line for the next submission of the same assignment.
An example of what not to do is "assignment 1a, submission 2".
By keeping the subject the same the whole history of the assignment is kept in the same place, which is very handy.

Use "reply" and don't remove the "Re:"
If your email lands in a different email thread due to the subject line changing, or if you remove the leading "re:" then there
is a very good chance that your submission will get lost.

Send your assignment in the body of the email
... not as an attachment!

Ensure that your email client is sending plain text.
Rich text formatting tends to mangle the formatting something fierce.
We get pretty cranky when the formatting is all mangled.
We aren't too happy about colors, either.

Read the style guide (again)
Yes, it matters. No, your assignment will not pass unless it follows it. Yes, we mean it.

Participate in the Assignment Log (if you want)
This is a voluntary log that is maintained independently of the nitpicking.
It was created so students could encourage each other.

Ask in the forum -- without posting actual code
We prefer each student to get the full benefit of figuring stuff out on their own.

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
