Character is only as special compared to Integer etc as char is compared to int etc. The biggest difference (apart from all the static utility methods) is that there is no static parseChar method. But why should there be, since converting a String into a char is just taking the first character from the String, if any.

Well, char is unsigned and all the other kinds of integer are two's complement, but that is part of what Rob said about
Character is only as special compared to Integer etc as char is compared to int etc.
