You are running JDK 6u17 on Windows 2000? Wow, you really are asking for problems.

Is there any chance you could run the app on a more recent version of Windows? And if so, does it run into the same issue?

You could also try turning off parallel GC (-XX:-UseParallelGC) - parallel GC is on by default if you have 2GB or RAM and more than one CPU.

Other than that, the only thing I can suggest is to bring this to the attention of the JDK engineers at Oracle (still can't get used to not saying "Sun" here) - the JVM should never crash so this is something they should fix.
