I hope this will answer a recurring question the comes up a lot in this forum.

As you all know by now, I passed (i.e., squeaked through) my SCJP exam yesterday. Today, to my surprise, I received two e-mails from Sun Microsystems:
1. One with the subject: "Sun Microsystems Certification Account Activation"
2. Another with the subject: "Sun Microsystems Certification Account Address Validation"
If you did not receive these e-mails after passing the exam, please read on. The following is the content of the second e-mail:

Dear Lawrence,

Congratulations on completing all the requirements for the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java Platform, SE 6 certification. You were certified on 03/23/2010.

Prior to Sun sending your certification welcome package to you, we require that you login to the Sun Certification Database to verify or update your current mailing address. We require shipping address verification every six months. This helps ensure that your certificate will be mailed to your personal address successfully.

Please log into your account at http://www.certmanager.net/sun. You will need your official score report the first time you log on.

Once this step is completed, your certificate will be mailed. Please allow up 8 weeks for processing and delivery. Certificates are sent via standard postal carrier so tracking information is not available.

If you need to prove your certification status before you receive your certificate, you may publish your certification credentials to individuals of your choice by logging into your account at http://www.certmanager.net/sun and clicking on "Publish Credentials", then following the instructions.

This is sufficient and official proof of your certification status until your formal certificate is received.

Please contact us with any questions or concerns at who2contact@sun.com.

Sincerely,

Sun Certification

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here are the important points:
1. You need to receive two e-mails about the certification from Sun.
2. You need to login to the Sun Certification Database
3. You need to wait up to 8 weeks for the official certificate to arrive
4. You need to send e-mail to who2contact@sun.com if you have questions about your certificate
5. You can publish your credentials to potential employers.

Prithvi, thank you and all the best on taking the SCJP exam.
You will know you are ready if you get at least 12 out of 15 questions right in all self-tests of the K&B book and at least 45% score in the ExamLab practice exams.

Hi,
I passed yesterday, but I didn't get any mails from Sun also I can't register on http://www.certmanager.net/sun I get something like this:

Please correct the following:
# We could not find a user meeting the specified criteria. Please review the criteria and try again.

What's the problem?

Kamil, it can take a while (a few days or so) before your information is available in Sun's database. Just wait a week and try again.

Kamil, Did you take the SCJP exam through Prometric? If you did, go to this web page, https://www.register.prometric.com/ChangeProfile.asp to check that your personal information such as e-mail address is correct. If it is all correct, then perhaps wait a few more days as Jesper suggested. Also, you could send e-mail to who2contact@sun.com with this question.

Unfortunately, in order to register on http://www.certmanager.net/sun, the Sun Certification Database, you first need that user id and password that Sun will send your in one of those e-mails that you are waiting for. It is a little bit of a bureaucratic catch-22.

I hope this helps.

Whatever exam you took in 2002 is obsolete now, so why bother?

All that thinking. Doesn't it hurt? What do you think about this tiny ad?
