First, thank you for the help people provide in this site. Invaluable. I come from a Tomcat/Spring/Hibernate world, and this exam really has nothing to do with it, so I have to start from 0. I even wonder why did I do it in the first place. Anyway, this is what I read:
• The Java EE tutorial. You don’t need to run any of the code, but you need to know what you can do with everything, which are always the first chapters of each topic. If you have time to do the examples, it not going do any harm.
• Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for Java EE Study Guide by Mark Cade, second edition. It is small and it is just a guide, but I need it because I give structure to the exam, and point out what you need to know. Without it, I would have been lost in the world of JTA, JAAS, JMX, JMS, JAX-RPC, and tens of other “J” words.
• The GOF (“Wikipedia”) book. If you are attempting this exam, chances are that you know/use most of the patterns here. There were quite a few questions about it, so they were “easy” points.
• Core J2EE Patterns: Best Practices and Design Strategies by Deepak Alur. This book is also very good, I love it. Even the weight and the texture of the pages feel good! A must have.
• The whizlab mock test. I think they are easier than the real thing (but the pattern part, which I think is more difficult), but they mention lots more things that I would have missed otherwise, like IDL, Corba, RMI, CMT, Restful, etc. A bit expensive, but hey, everybody have the right to earn a decent living.
• A couple of articles from the internet.
• Java Concurrency in Practice by Brian Goetz. This book has nothing to do with the exam, but is so good, that I thought I may mention it. It is a real gem, even if you may never use any of it in real life; this book will make you a better developer.
• Effective Java: Second Edition by Joshua Bloch, as above, nothing to do with the exam, but it is just a good book, I had to mention it!
That’s it; maybe this is why I only had a 65%, which is more that I thought I would have.
