Job scenario in Mumbai

Hi All,

How is the job scenario is looking in Mumbai for Java/J2ee with 8+ yrs experience. I am looking out for a job there and i have been applying to various jobs/consultants for past 15-20 days but i did not got many calls expect for 2 investment banks. Are not other IT service companies hiring?

From 1-2 compies, I also got a reply from HR saying my current sal is higher than what they can offer. My current sal is 9 lacs for 8 yrs experience. Is it too high?

Try Pune, Mumbai's software now is restricted to few IBs only.
BTW 9 LPA for 8 years is low - you should get 12 to 18 LPA.

If 9 LPA for 8 years is low, i am getting ONLY 4.25 LPA for 6 years.

The mistake i made was stayed/ staying in my current company for 4 years

your mistake was that you didnt communicate with your company for a rise, negotiation is absolutely important, cause no one wants to pay the right money dude, especially suits.

There are many factors which decides salary. You have to identify why are you getting low and work on that. For example is it qualification, skills, role, location, company culture.

Many people think that you can get salary only by job hopping which is wrong in many cases. There are cases where a person has grown from junior engineer to CEO in one company. Mr. Ramadorai junior engineer to CEO in one company

The above referred scenario is a rare one. Mr.Ramadorai joined in that company around 1966 i guess.

Those were the days when we would say there was almost NIL competition in IT/computer fields.

This is also a factor which needs to be considered. This does not mean that he was able to attain to those heights very easily or by mere luck.

But, that was possible in those days and given in our current situation which is brimming with lots of competition, people have to switch to other jobs as otherwise

he/she will remain stagnant. There is no doubt in it??

I agree it is something rare. But what I wanted to say is it is something possible if company is really good. In today's world most companies try to get maximum out of you at minimum cost. I agree on that too. But job hopping is something different. I am not sure how much job hopping will help in long run.

Yes many doubts. Do you mean to say to stand out in competition, switching jobs is solution? I would like to know how.
