Cloud computing http://www.myrealdata.com/cloud-hosting.html is basically a blend of two platforms virtualization technology and distributed computing. The virtualization platforms ensure that more than one application can run on server ensuring optimal utilization of space and thereby reducing the cost of computing infrastructure. Other aspect of cloud computing i.e. distributed computing implies that the infrastructure do not need to be based on the business premises itself, and instead can be rented out. This has evolved into various models of cloud computing termed as Platform as a service, Hardware as a service and software as a service. Cloud computing goes a step ahead of software as a service and instead removed the intermediary SAAS service provider by offering the Infrastructure to the businesses itself.
Cloud computing helps you to:
Reduce IT support and upfront establishment costs
Easy scalability and no future provisioning
Redundancy

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
