Hi Folks,

Please help me with this problem.I have joined in a service based company(M NC ..One in top10 companies in India) before a month.
I am kept in support for a project.I am getting 70% hike in this company.Have 2.2 yrs of exp,Working on java/j2ee technology, getting paid 4.5L and my role / designation is senior software engineer.

When i started looking out i have attended almost all the big M N C's.When i got relieved from my previous company i checked all the offers in my hand and joined in the best of all ...service based company..In the list of companies that i have attended some of them are yet to send the offer letter.I am sure that i will get..but at that moment it is not available. After few days of joining i got a offer letter from a product based company with 80% (4.75)hike.They kept me in development project.

Problem that i am facing is:

I have to travel 5-6 hrs a day to reach service based company. At times when they need me i am not available which is creating a bad impression.Have to operate in UK shift timings which is hectic to me and they are not providing any cab facility and you need to go by your own.I don't see a learning opportunity here..Once in a while one issue:-|

If i choose product based company , it takes only one hour of travel for me in a day.

I have completed all levels of certifications in java and i am looking forward to take an opportunity where i can use my knowledge.I am having 2.2 yrs exp and wanted to be in a development project and hone my technical skills.

Please help me what i have to do now.Either i have to quit service based or continue for an year and get a better job in a product based company or go ask for a project change.

Thanks for your valuable time.

c ris

Kris,
I recommend staying out the year. It creates a bad impression if you leave so quickly. If you ever want to work at that company again or with someone who works there now and has gone to another company. You don't want to create a bad name for yourself.

There is a cost to hiring a new employee/consultant. By leaving early, you are making the company eat that cost. You can understand why they would be upset.

I would recommend you to decide and make a tradeoff between the work provided by both the companies...if you want to be in development role then quit now and join product based company...I personally feel you should love your work rather than your employer. If the company is going through bad times they would not give a second thought to lay you off...

I know lot of people will disagree with me but this is what I personally feel...

Is there some reason why you can't just move to be closer to your job?

I would agree with this advice if Kris hasn't started yet. Now I advise him to stick it out.
