Ok, after months of on and off studying, I finally got the courage to take the exam...

I did OK for most parts except Building JSP Page Using Tag Libraries (JSTL?) (37% )
I did well on Security, EL, standard action and Patterns, while others are about 80~%

I think HFSJ is an excellent book to get the concept clear and the watchout stuff but you need to read more to prepare for the exam.
IMPORTANT: MUST REMEMBER and UNDERSTAND all the BANGs and BULLET POINTS in the HFSJ, no alternative.
I also read Sun Certified Web Component Developer Study Guide but found it is overkill for this exam. It is good reference to fill some holes of HFSJ. Read it if you have time.

Most exam questions are direct forward actually, much easier than the ones in books, esp SCWCD study guide.

There are however a few surprises in the exam:

question related to using variables in tag file and JSP that I did not study much about it

If I need to prepare again, I would definitely remember all the Servlet, ServletRequest and ServletResponse API signatures mentioned in the book correctly. I got mixed up some API names and parameters....
There are A LOT of questions about API !!!
Remember ALL elements in DD mentioned in HFSJ is very important.
