Hi,

we are indexing values from Documents and database using Lucene. As per requirement we need certain set of documents be given higher priority than other and over database values. Can we specify boost value while indexing.

Is there any other opting to satisfy the above condition.

Thanks
Smitha

Yes, that's what boosting is for.

Thanks for the repsonse.

my question is how do specify the set of documents that has to boosted. I read in post that document clustering has to be done and boost them depending on cluster score.

Any idea.

Thanks
Smitha.

OK, to be precise, boosting isn't done during indexing, it's done during searching where specific search terms are given a boost as described in http://lucene.apache.org/java/3_0_1/queryparsersyntax.html#Boosting%20a%20Term

If you want some documents in the result set to be listed higher than others, you'd have to store some value with them that indicates as much, and use that when generating the output from the search results.
