I suggest to create a new forum for GAE Java.
it will help members and attract new members who are looking for gae java support.
As there's no official forum. Javaranch can be the perfect place.

Who others think?

I suggest each request for a new forum be followed by a requester's $1000.00 donation to the tip jar.

I'm missing something - how is GWT related to GAE?

Please be more explicit: what is the relationship between GAE and GWT that would make posting GAE questions in the GWT forum a good idea? As I see it, there's a whole lot about GAE that has nothing to do with GWT.

Hi,

They're both made by Google and they both have something to do with the web. Other than that, there's no relationship. You can certainly use GAE as the backend for a GWT application, but it's no different than using any other host.

Basically GAE is a web-hosting with (currently) two platforms available - Python and Java, and with "kinda weird" database to build upon.

Regards,

The request isn't for just benefit of requester, Its to make the Ranch a great place, attract more members, more traffic and more popularity.
For that requester should get prize of $1000.00. ;)

Again, Its not a request, its a suggestion.

Rizvan- that much I knew. So I guess the answer to my question is "No, it doesn't really make sense to post GAE question in the GWT forum".

Ulf,

If somebody has a question about GAE, and they want to ask it on these forums, do you have a suggestion on where it would best fit?

That's a good question. It could be Java questions (Java in General forum), it could be Python questions (Other Languages forum), or it could be questions about deployment and runtime that have nothing to do with coding directly (maybe General Computing forum, although such questions would be more likely to be asked on Google's GAE forums).

Well, addressing the OP:

Sometimes we do create a new forum. Our primary concern is that we create a new forum and then goes unused.

Are there books about GAE? (book promotions can often times help a new forum get rolling)

Is there a current staff member willing to moderate a new forum like this?

Anybody have guesses about how much GAE discussion there already is on the ranch?

paul I dont think its a good idea to have a new forum just for GAE,

As Ulf rightly stated,
Questions on java can be answered in java or python in their respective forums,
though not always the case, the GAE is used to host Applications made in GWT and we have a forum for that.

I guess people could have trouble to connect to their database since the have thier own "Datastore" concept.
But they have a forum for that and thier Docs are updated enough.

My opinion though, YMMV

Java in GAE isn't pure java, Knowing basic java isn't every thing a beginner need to start with GAE, soon they will encounter difficulties and start wondering around looking for answers, why my app does not work on GAE? What do I need to do to make it run on GAE and many more things. Other than that there are GAE specific stuff like scheduled tasks, url fetch service, bloblstore and image manipulations that confuses many beginners. Currently only source of getting support for GAE is official mailing list for GAE java. But it's a mailing list not a forum.
Having a GAE forum on Ranch will surely attract many GAE beginners.

Questions on java can be answered in java or python in their respective forums,

- How about Java questions related to GAE? "Why It gives me error when I use a particular library? it works locally but GAE says the package is blocked". "How to resolve it?"
- GAE isn't used to host applications made in GWT, as far as I know most of the apps in GAE does not use GWT. However users has option to use GWT just like any other library that works on GAE.

We have non-java forums now. Non-java is fine. Did you notice the fourms are on "coderanch"?

Well, it seems there is no staff member willing to carry the banner on this, so further discussion ends up moot.

If anybody has any other ideas on how to facilitate this sort of thing, now would be a good time to air them.
