Hi,

I have more than 2 years of experience in one of the Indian MNCs. For first year I have worked on a Core Java maintenance project
for a telecom client. For the next year I worked on a production support (L2 support) project on J2EE technology for a banking client. Now I have been assigned another support project for a retail client based on TIBCO technologies.

I want to move to Java Development now. Getting released from current assignment seems difficult. So the only option left is company switch, but I am afraid that with one year of maintenance and one year of support experience whether it would be possible for me to get a Java Development project outside.

I am pretty good in Core Java and like programming a lot. I am preparing for SCJP 1.6 and hope to clear it by next month.

Kindly suggest me what are my chances to get a Java Development project outside and what else can I do to incarease my chances for same. Also I would like to know what are career growth chances as a support proffessional as compared to Development Proffessional.

Thanks.

Yogesh, there are great chances that you can get the development job outside.

Typically the sterotype becomes problem when you are at little higher level in terms of experience and typically when Indian industry thinks that the human willingness to learn radically new things reduces substantially. But at your level, I don't think it should be an issue.

All the best for your SCJP and job hunt!
