Hi Guys,

I guess this would be something many people have come across, but i need to create an application that will take in a given user input to identify records to be copied from the Production Database to the test Environment. I also need to implement Data Masking on some of the fields to ensure that the confidential data cannot be read.

What would be your suggestions for the best method to do the Data Masking?

Thanks,
mitch

What about defining a View in DB model? Is it possible for you?

Sorry for the delay in my response. I am going to be using an iSeries database so DB2 (as400), it needs to be created as a utility.

I intend to connect to the production database using JDBC, using SQL to extract the required policies. The only fields I need to mask are name and address, currently there is a very simple substition that takes place on these 2 fields but it needs to be much more secure and robost and mask the data to a far greater degree. I then intend to write to a flat file and then using SQL insert these records into the target environment.

The data does not have to be readable so what would you suggest to mask the confidential data?

Regards,
Mitch

That sounds pretty much like what Jailer tool does, http://jailer.sourceforge.net/.
You might be able to mask the confidential data by using it's filter feature.
