I am the young woman in this post http://www.coderanch.com/forums/posts/list/120/39683#274455 . I asked for help when I was 17 yrs and just starting up as a programmer. I'm 24 yrs old now, still in Nigeria. I work for a giant electronic company but also part-time as a sports presenter/analyst. I know it's difficult to believe but I've become extremely popular as a football(soccer) analyst.

I am very grateful for all the help I got when I was seeking to get SCJP certification. I got a laptop from a member of this site and some books. They were very helpful and I was a star in my class. The books made me more knowledgeable than even some of my lecturers and for that I'll be forever grateful. I even got a job in a small software firm soon after that and for a 17 yr old girl in Nigeria, that was a huge achievement.

I'ld be grateful, however, if Mr. Wheaton who created that topic, could please hide it from the general public. Please hide it from google because I don't want people who know me now as a sports presenter to get confused if they stumble across the link while searching for me on the web.

Thanks to the Javaranch family.

God bless you all.

Hello Ebunoluwa Bankole,

I am one of the moderators on JavaRanch. I moved the topic into the trash for you, so that it isn't publicly visible anymore on JavaRanch.

That brings back memories.

Well, I'm glad that it all turned out to be for real and it did help! For a while a lot of us wondered if we'd been hoodwinked. After all, we never heard a peep back - until now.

Congratulations on your success. I guess all of the icky things you were concerned could happen to you did not happen.

If I remember correctly, I did very little. I think somebody else sent you the laptop and somebody else still sent you the books.

YES! My knowledge of software programming gave me a lot of exposure and is responsible for everything I am today. I discovered that I have a very analytical mind which can be adopted in several fields.

When I get married and have kids, I'll make sure they learn to code from an early age.
