spring MVC 3 binding help

I'm new to spring MVC. Trying to develop a web application. Page one is a list of users and each one is a link to a detail page.
The link is like this "/user/userid.1"

The problem is that the usr_id I get in this method has only the part before the ".", like "userid" instead of "userid.1".
I felt it's something simple that I didn't do correctly. What did I do wrong?
