tomcate installation problem

Hello
I am new to apache tomcat.I installed apache-tomcat-6.0.18.
Then I tried to start service, then It is showing a pop-up message that :Could not start the apache.
So just want to know what other things I need to do
I also installed jdk & jre.

Can you elaborate more about OS, installation package.
