how to see the method invocation sequence from eclipse
posted 7 years ago
I have a very big j2ee application. The code base is big and written by other people. I am wondering that, from eclipse, how can I find out the method/class invokation sequence for a certain "click" on a page of the application ? I tried using debug but it is too slow. Any tool that can display the sequence calls globally ?
You could try using AOP to add debugging to the app and print out the methods entered and exited - that would give you some idea of the code flow.
Eclipse will give you a call hierarchy - right-click a method and select Open Call Hierarchy. But that shows which methods call the selected method, and which call those, and so on. But I think you want to go the other direction - what methods are called by the selected method, and what methods do those method call.
