Hey everyone,

I passed SCWCD last week. I work in IT sales and have never worked in any techy type of job role and dont have any commercial programming or developer experience. I am looking for a junior role to get me started.

Most of the jobs I see advertised always seem to ask for some additional skills whether it be on databases, containers, front end stuff and IDE's.

I've started learning JavaScript. I've downloaded mySql and Eclipse and started practicing some small programmes to get them working.

I am looking for some advice and opinions of what I can do next to make myself as employable as possible? Also what books or learning sources would you recommend?

Finally where is the best place (websites) to go to try and get involved in an open source or educational project where I could get involved to gain some project experience?

Many thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

Kev

Agreed. Don't play down your higher education degrees. All a certification proves is that you can pass a test. A degree, even a liberal arts degree, can be more valuable than a certification.

That sounds good. I suggest that you start to look at Master of Science programs in your local community. A Information Systems or Information Technology concentration would compliment your Bachelor degree.
