I don't see how that would be possible on a letter-by-letter basis since many languages use the same, or similar, characters.

In any case--what you're asking for is difficult: handwriting recognition is difficult for a single language, let alone differentiation.

Sure. German, English: these don't (always). Chinese, Japanese: these *might*, sometimes.

I'd recommend perusing the ACM digital library and see if there's anything in there--it's probable someone else has tried to solve this problem as their dissertation.

So convert from C to Java--can't be *that* difficult, assuming it even works.

If the software you found does exactly what you want, why not use it through JNI or Runtime.exec?
