Hi guys...

So I passed the SCJP this week and hope to follow through with the SCJD Exam.
I registered via www.ibt.prometric.com/sun to book the SCJD assignment, but the only option available for payment was via credit card. Well, I don't own a credit card, I don't need a credit card and I don't want a credit card(costs, credit card fraud, another foreign company to whom I need to disclose personal information, which probably has never heard of data privacy protection) so I don't really feel like getting one just because of this...
Are there any alternative means of paying for the exam?
I noticed you can use a voucher for buying (I used a voucher for SCJP) but I don't have any idea where i can get one...

Thank a lot,
Peter

Hi Paul (or Peter),

Welcome to the JavaRanch!

Before the acquisition by Oracle you bought your voucher through sun educational services of your country. At the end of March I was still able to get a voucher in this way (paid by invoice). Because I also don't have a credit card, I hope this option will be kept available.

Kind regards,
Roel

Hi Roel (both names are correct ),

thanks for the reply. Is buying through sun educational services referring to the county-specific website that is you can choose from this list (http://www.oracle.com/global/us/education/sun_select_country.html) ? In my case (I'm from Germany) that also doesn't work, if I choose invoice it's rejected (see attachement) saying: "Please choose another payment method. (Invoice is only available when you book a course that is run by a trainer)". That's still the old sun website, I think, other countries (UK for example) route to an new Oracle website, but I guess I can't use a voucher bought through the UK site? (If that is even possible, I haven't tried)

Best regards,
Peter

Hi Paul,

I don't go through oracle website, just use google. For Germany I think this link will be helpful (for other countries use this link, make an appropriate country selection and then look for something like certification and then choose java technology). Then you just click the certification you want to buy (scja, scjp, scjd,...) and you add it to the shopping cart. Then you get a form you have to fill in (name, address, billing address,...) and then you get an invoice (by mail) and a voucher number (also by mail). This is the procedure I used to order my last certification voucher (at the end of March).

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

ps. good luck to bayern munich this evening (could be the 1st belgian player winning the CL ever )

Yep, that's what I tried, but as I said, I can't get beyond the form for the billing address and the payment method when I choose "invoice" as the payment method (see screenshot above). I tried the Belgian site and you are right, you can choose invoice there and it works. So the question is would it be legal for me to buy the voucher through the Belgian site? I mean the price is the same and it's both Euro zone, so practically it shouldn't matter. The voucher I used for SCJP was legal for use in all countries of the Euro zone, as far as I know. I mean I thought that's what they established the European Union for?

Thanks, I'll be watching but it will be difficult, Inter is hard to score against. I checked and Eric Gerets won the European Cup with PSV in 1988. OK, technically it wasn't the Champions League until 1992 but European Cup/Champions League are usually counted as one competition because the Champions Leage replaced the European Cup.

Hi Peter,

Don't know, never bought a voucher in another country. I would contact them through email or telephone and just ask if it is possible. From the mail you get:

If you have any questions do not hesitate to call Sun on +32 (0)2 704.89.83 or email [email protected]

That's true, but in the press here the difference between Champions League and European Cup is made (and Gerets is mentioned as the only Belgian winner of the Europa Cup). Normally I'm not pro German teams, but Inter played such boring football against Barcelona I wasted 2 hours of my valuable time

Kind regards,
Roel

You know, I was pretty sure Inter was going to win the UEFA Champions League... here, in the Libertadores da America championship, my Sao Paulo is doing pretty good... there are still the semi-finals and hopefully the finals still ahead... and it is always like this: the Libertadores champion plays against the UEFA champion in the end of the year... so, maybe there will be a Sao Paulo X Inter in the end of the year!

Inter was the stronger team at the end of the day. Hate to say it since Van Buyten plays that position but Bayerns centre-backs weren't quite up to international standards the whole season, they always relied on scoring enough goals themselves and since Inters defence is really tight Inter had to be favoured to win and they did.

Now back to for me "slightly" more important things, and no, it's not Ballack missing the World Cup. Thanks for your help, Roel, I send them a mail and wait for the (hopefully postive) reply. But if this doesn't work out I'm still open for alternative ways to buy a voucher, there surely has to be some way...
