Hello, I would like some information about how three-step tests of the SCEA works.
1) Is there a time limit from the day I pass one step and the day when I decide to do the next step?

2) The second step is practically a project from some requirements given. But how does this test? The project is downloadable? From where? I have to go anyway in Prometric like the step 1? I can work on the project from home? Is there a limit of time to complete this test?

3) For the step 3 ... I have the same question like the step 2.

KR,

ML

Please go through the official web site for SCEA on the Oracle site. That should answer all of your questions. You can post if you still have any unanswered questions after going through the link on the Oracle site.

To go to the official Oracle site, please follow the steps below.

  • Go to http://www.oracle.com/education/chooser/selectcountry_new.html
  • Select your country
  • Click on "Certification" in the menu on the left
  • You will find a banner titled "Important Updates Sun Certifications" at the bottom of the screen. Click it
  • On the next page, under the section "Certification Overview" click "Java Technology"
  • On the next page, click on "Sun Certified Enterprise Architect"
  • You will get the SCEA main page. Click on any of the parts (Exam, Assignment, Essay) and you will get details of that part
  • If the page shows that your country is still not combined with Oracle, you will probably have to check the details on the Sun site instead
  • To get an idea of the SCEA certification and its parts, you might also want to select your country as "United States" and repeat the above steps if information is not displayed for your country

    I see the following link:

Some of my questions are still valid:

    1) Is there a time limit from the day I pass one step and the day when I decide to do the next step?

    2) The second step is practically a project from some requirements given. But how does this test? The project is downloadable? From where? I have to go anyway in Prometric like the step 1? I can work on the project from home? Is there a limit of time to complete this test?

    Thanks

No. There is no time limit for you to start part 2 after clearing part 1. However, please be aware that Sun has traditionally stopped offering certifications for older versions when an equivalent newer version certification becomes available. This is not overnight though. Now that Oracle owns Sun, it is not very clear what they will be doing. However, with Java EE 6 around the corner, there is a possibility that they might announce a sun-setting of the SCEA Java EE certification.

While there is no time limit on when to take part 2, it is probably better to complete all parts so that you do not lose momentum.

You can register for part 2 after completion of part 1. Once you register and pay the part 2 fees online on the prometric site (you can get link on the Oracle site), you will be given a randomly selected project with relevant requirements that you have to print. You will be required to create an architecture for this project offline (in your home etc) and then submit it by email after completing part 3.

Regarding the time limit for completing part 2, you have one year from the day that you register for part 2 to complete the project. Note that it is not one year after completing part 1, but one year after registering for part 2.

Please reply if you still have any doubts or clarifications.

    If I understand correctly:
    - Phase two of the examination can be done offline and I have a year to complete it.
To access the file or requirements is enough to have the link where to do a download and I do not have to go to Prometric site for it. When I was given this link?

    - The delivery of the project of the phase two of examination should be done after step three. So to get to phase three do not have to have completed phase two .. right?

Yes. You have one year after you register for part 2 to complete the assignment.

In order to access the part 2 assignment, go to the SCEA main page on the Oracle site. You can find instructions to find this page in my earlier post above. Once you are on the SCEA main page, click on the part 2 (assignment) box, you will get a page which shows the part 2 details. There is a Register link next to the assignment registration text. Click it, pay the fees and you can download the assignment. I am attaching a jpg file that shows the location of this link.

The instructions on the Oracle site indicate that we should complete part 3 first and then submit part 2. However, I presume that you are expected to submit your part 2 assignment within a day or two of completing your part 3.

    Hope this helps...
