David locked the post because the discussion had turned from a discussion of HTML/CSS to something more appropriate for this forum.

I'll quote what I had posted there.

Let me get this straight -- I give you some advice on how to get better and quicker help, and you consider that rude, unprofessional, a hijack and discipline?

Really?

My post was meant to help you. Again, feel free to ignore the advice. But to take well-meaning advice as rude is beyond my capacity to understand. The guidelines aren't there to "discpline" you -- they're there to help you get your questions answered.

Written communication can be tricky, but you really should try to take posts in the spirit in which they are intended. You seem to be imparting some sinister meaning to them rather than an attempt to help you.

You are correct, after the thread is locked you will not be able to post.

That is the purpose of this topic. It seems you are just trying to be argumentative. I have removed my post from that topic (as it is captured above) if it makes you happier. But the HTML forum is not the place to discuss this sort of thing. This forum is.

Please go back and read my posts imagining me as someone smiling and talking in a helpful tone, while they are saying what I wrote. You may find that your initial interpretation may be a bit off.

You can post here. However, we are not discussing whether Bear behaved appropriately in this thread either. Bear is a moderator here. Several other moderators (including David and myself) have read that thread. He was trying to be helpful. He did not hijack your thread by offering advice on how to post better. Keep in mind that all moderators here are volunteers. They are not required to send all messages by private message.

ps calling a moderator unprofessional and rude is not the best way to open a dialog with the moderators of a website. If you want to discuss CSS, feel free to start a new thread. If you want to talk about how to post well, feel free to reply in this thread. If you do reply in this thread, consider what your post carefully. It will be locked if it is viewed as attaching any of the volunteers here.

In the continued spirit of taking time out of my Sunday to be helpful -- my original intent -- I'm going to make a copy of the topic and clear out all the discussion parts (which we can continue here if necessary), That way Namitha won't have to report his original question.

Namitha, once that is accomplished I still advise you to edit the code and post it with proper formatting. It will help you get your answers.

In many earlier occasions I have issues with Bear Bibeault. He intentionally divert the purpose of my thread. That is why I call him unprofessional and rude.

After the thread had been locked Bear Bibeault posted a reply AND THEN DELETED IT. That means TWO operations were done on a locked thread. How he is able to freely operate on a locked thread? What is the meaning of locking a thread?

I give up! I copy the thread so that YOU don't have to take the time to re-enter it, and again you complain about the help! What will make you happy?

I think moderators can do this sort of magic stuff. By the way, I'm somewhat amazed that you were put off by him requesting you use code tags. For my money, I usually get better answers and more respect if I try to make it easy for the volunteers to answer my questions. You may too.

Could you please point out these threads? If indeed my responses turn out to be diversionary rather than an attempt to be helpful, I can learn from those instances.

Because we *work* here, and can do things to threads people that don't work here can't.

We spent some of our time voluntarily helping people. Since our time is both limited and valuable, we ask people to post their code and configuration in a way that's as easy to read as possible. Why would you *not* want to help people help you? Why would you *not* want to conform to the general guidelines of the forum to which you are posting?

Your thread was locked for a perfectly good reason, not that I need to defend myself. I explained the reason. I locked the thread. I told you where your issues *unrelated to the original thread* could be addressed (here). The advice was given in the spirit of getting you what you wanted--take it in the spirit it was intended.

Being argumentative about something so trivial seems a poor use of your time--especially when properly-indented code helps *you* as well.

What did I just say? Locking this thread.

Yes, of course, and I accept that blame. In fact, i covet that blame. As does this tiny ad:
