My client has multiple openings for Java Software Engineers . These are 4-6 month contract positions and probaly longer. The location is in Omaha, NE.
This position requires you be a US Citizen and pass a background check and drug screen.
Most of the positions require 2-6 years experience. There is room on the project for a couple of more senior engineers.
Job Description:
Seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to support Omaha based programs to include the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS), Weather Data Analysis (WDA), Joint Environmental Toolkit (JET) and Special Projects. Programs utilize Java, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies to provide Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solutions to government and commercial customers.

Responsibilities include the following: Participation in the full development life cycle for software development programs including design of software components, developing code, updating technical documents, generating test plans, ensuring code meets requirements through unit testing, and resolving discrepancy reports. Work with the technical lead, other developers, System Engineering and Test Engineering to participate in peer reviews and to ensure successful integration with other software components. Work with minimal supervision/guidance. Provide tradeoffs between reuse options, Operations & Management (O&M) implications, and cost/schedule/performance issues. Support subsystem risk/opportunity identification. Provide weekly status (technical and schedule) for tasks.

Required Experience, Skills:

Requires a minimum of a BA/BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or an applicable engineering or technical subject, plus a minimum of two years work experience directly related to software development engineering.

One or more years experience directly related to software development engineering in Java. A thorough understanding of Java gained through formal training can substitute for this experience

One or more years of experience in software development using Object Oriented Methodologies.

US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance - candidate must be able to pass a National Agency Check (NAC).

Desired Experience, Skills, Knowledge:

One or more years of experience using Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) and/or Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) web services architecture. A thorough understanding of ESB or J2EE gained through formal training can substitute for this experience.

Experience developing and/or supporting solutions for weather and meteorological science.

Experience in Extensible Markup Language (XML), Unified Modeling Language (UML), Eclipse IDE, database, and/or Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) a plus.

Math or Physics background a plus.

General knowledge of other disciplines and how they relate to software engineering to include systems, hardware, integration/test, configuration management, and quality engineering.

Experience using MS-Office suite of tools (e.g. Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).

This is HOT! The start date is early July, 2010.
The rate is $45-60.00 per hour.
