Read a Flat File line by line and add it to a StringBuffer

Hi ,

I am trying to read a Flat File which is line by line "\n" new line seperated .
I want to read each line and add it to a StringBuffer .

I tried this way ,but its not working .Please help

 public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
	 {
		 BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(	new InputStreamReader( new FileInputStream("D:/FILEPATH/FILE.txt")));
		 StringBuffer inpMessage=new StringBuffer();
		 String item = in.readLine();  
		 do
		 {
			 inpMessage.append(item+"/n");
		 }
		 
          while(item!=null);
		 System.out.println(inpMessage);
	 }

You never change item. You read one line, then keep using the same line over and over.

You'll see that usually one of the following (nearly identical) loops is used:

// 1
String item = in.readLine();
while (item != null)
{
    ...
    item = in.readLine();
}

// 2; this is 1 but the assignment is included in the guard
String item;
while ((item = in.readLine()) != null) // read a line, assign to item, then check if item != null
{
    ...
}
