Ever write something down and wonder what you were thinking? I took a page of notes while sitting under a tree at the park about 6 hours ago. I can read bits and pieces of it but it's like a puzzle.

And before anyone asks why I wasn't typing - I was using my iPad to read and it doesn't handle reading zip files while taking notes elegantly yet.

Usually in a case like yours, I draw strange things.

It was an oak tree by a lake. It was in the high 90's (Fahrenheit) and the tree gave nice shade. There was also a little breeze going on so it was comfortable.

Oh and my pen was black. That's an important detail too, right?

When talking on the phone, I sometimes draw meaningless things. But not text.

Forget about the tree part... consider this:

When I meet a friend of mine, with whom I had no correspondence for a very long time, we chit chat and catch up - one story thread leads to another, and another until it reaches some point that the topic that we discuss at that time had radically no connection to the one we initially started off with. I was bewildered of this procession, and had the accidental opportunity of encountering more than once.

Its just that when you are perfectly relaxed, your subconscious mind takes over the matter more as you've left your mind wander without any reigns. Just that you took some notes at that time, shows you when you "wake up" what you were thinking while you were relaxed - perfectly understandable if it makes absolutely no sense to you when your mind is back in the everyday chaos

When I was in grad school, I took careful notes of the important things in the lectures. When I got home, I could not read my own handwriting.

I have no idea what I'd write down if I was not concentrating on making it easy to read for later access

I still blame the tree as this doesn't usually happen

I will say my handwriting differs greatly when i am writing for myself or someone else. My own notes contain abbreviations that most people don't use and are messy. I remember one time I was out sick and asked a coworker to check a post it on my desk with something i needed to tell him. I needed to be on the phone to decipher it because even the words he could read didn't make sense on their own.

When I write anything for myself, my handwriting is so awesome that I have a hard time understanding it later (god bless anyone else who can understand my handwriting)...

So I left, I came home, and I ate some pie. And then I read this tiny ad:
