Folks,

Starting a new project ... tomorrow ... Its a good deal more JS than I usually write ... (70% JavaScript, 30% Java) ....
and I think I'd like to use an IDE for the JS work. Usually, I use Textpad or Eclipse for the JS ...

I'd appreciate some comments/opinions on ...
  • Aptana JS/CSS/HTML IDE -- Is this the best choice?
  • Eclipse plugin(s) for JS
  • some other tool

  • thanks!

I personally prefer to use a single tool for both the Java and the client-side stuff. Your mileage may vary. Try a few tools out and see which one fits best with the way that you like to work.

So far I've been the most impressed with IntelliJ's JavaScript support, with the caveat that I don't use NetBeans. Eclipse is lacking.

    Bear and Dave

    Thanks for the comments ...

By the way Dave ... I just bought your book ... I've finished the first two chapters and then I skipped to the JavaScript chapters ... because of this project ... I don't agree with the two reviews on Amazon ... my initial impressions are much more positive ... I'll write a my own comments on Amazon when I've finished more of the book.

Thanks :) Jeanne's right, though; they do *not* edit well, and they introduced a lot of errors that didn't exist in the original version. And due to the amount of material I had to review (and an unfortunate title change), it's definitely not the book I had originally intended--but it is what it is :)
