JSF excels at forms handling. It's especially good when you have complex forms that may need several attempts before the user gets all the data correct, since it supports both data validation and postback/redisplay.
JSP is a more general-purpose mechanism. It doesn't give you much help for complex forms, but it's better for non-form stuff like outputting XML files to the user's browser.
The secret of how to be miserable is to constantly expect things are going to happen the way that they are "supposed" to happen.
You can have faith, which carries the understanding that you may be disappointed. Then there's being a willfully-blind idiot, which virtually guarantees it.
