I am thinking of studying for the SCJP 6 exam but there seems to be a lot of material to cover. I am not a full-time Java programmer but I've been learning Java in my spare time for the last six months. With this experience and the 'Sierra and Bates' book how many hours studying do think I should allow before taking the exam?
I used many resources but settled on the S&B book for focused exam
preparation. I allowed 3-4 full days per chapter plus time to take several
mock exams and learn from the results. My result was a pass at 86%.
Hi Lloyd, welcome to ranch! The learning time differs from people to people and it depends on your knowledge and experience in Java. You can check here to find different preparation experiences. 2-3 months is a safe bet to cover SCJP book, do some mock exams etc if you prepare part time!
How many hours you spend on the exam kinda depends. You need to take a lot of mock exams. Take a look at ScjpMockTests. Once you take more and more exams you will know where you stand. After you have reached a level where you are confident, you can go ahead and take the exam.
