I am having a serious issue in reading Excel sheets from Java.I am using the POI Api for reading the excel sheets.I am able to
read a particular excel sheet in my java application..wherein i am just recreating the excel sheet using grid layout.I am able
to get the values present in the cells of excel sheets.......But now I want the values to be retrieved dynamically....I am
trigerring an event that is on clicking of a button i am able to retrieve the values of a particular excel file...But if i Do
some changes in that particular excel file and then SAVE it .Again clicking on the button in my java application retrieves
the updated excel sheet...But WHAT I WANT is after doing the changes in the excel sheet and WITHOUT SAVING THE CHANGES in the excel file....my java application shoud be able to retrieve the updated values in the excel sheet.I repeat it again i.e WITHOUT SAVING THE CHANGES in the excel file, java application shoud be able to retrieve the values on clicking of the button.................I have tried JACOB,JCom(licensing issue so was not properly implemented) and COM4j(not able to get a proper documentation)and I won't be using JExcel api due to security issues...But as i Have used POI ,is it possible to get the active instance of excel before changes being saved???..
please help me out..........!!!

But how would your java application know that someone changed the data(as it data still not saved),
as your application is still pointing to the saved excel file(without changes
user is changing the excel file in hard disk(like in any drive) ?

If the application reads from a file, then the changes will obviously have to be saved for it to be reflected. If however, the application uses some in-memory Java object, to which the changes have already been applied, then the second request will be able to see the changes. I don't see how this is specific to excel files or POI.
