openjpa, annotations and entity names

i have my entity as this:



and my persistance.xml


now the bean is in a seperate package from the main webpage and persistence.xml
if i build a jar of the bean package and include it i WebContent/WEB-INF/lib everything works fine

but if i use the build path and the "Java EE Module Dependencies" to include the bean package i get this error message:


why is it reverting to reflection and ignoring my annotations?

i found the trouble was the project my beans were in was "byte enhanced" why should that cause a problem?
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
