I turned my macbook after three weeks and found that the battery charge indicator is stuck at 12%. When I connect the power adapter I get "Not Charging" as battery status. I tried shutting down and restarting the computer. Nothing changed. For some reason I tried resetting the SMC(by pressing Shift, Control Option and Power button and then restarted the machine) without any luck.

Any one encountered this problem before?

Please help.

Thanks.

Is the light on the power plug lit? Is it green or orange?

I've had similar on two occasions:
  • On one of my old iBooks the battery went bad and needed replacing.
  • On one of my MacBook Pros, the puppy had eaten through the cord when I wasn't looking.

    Expensive tastes!

Luckily he's long since grown out of the cord-chewing phase.

  • Yes. The orange light(charging indicator) on the plug is lit. But it still shows "Not charging". I think the problem is not with the charger but the battery.

I reset SMC controller and PRAM also, as was suggested in some of the forums but without much luck. I am still within the warranty period, I hope that they replace the battery.

How much does a new battery cost?

I got the batteries changed for free. Everything seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks for the help.

With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
