What do you do to keep up to date with what is happening in the java world?

I've been able to find these 2 news sites that are quite good

theserverside.com
infoq.com

Are there any other good reliable sources of information?

Try http://www.pourbrain.com , good for core java interview question & answers

For my next feat, I will require a volunteer from the audience! Perhaps this tiny ad?
