Lack of concentration

Does this ever happen to you- you go to the market to get 5 things and you return home with only 3, you forget 2 of them. Or you go to the refrigerator and as you open the door, you can't remember what you came for. My case is so worse that as I get up from the chair, I forget why I got up. Seriously I'm pretty pissed with myself. Sometimes I pick up my mobile to set an alarm, there is a new message on the mobile so I decide to read it first and then I forget to set the alarm and just put it back. Whatever this is, lack of concentration or my brain is worn out, its very annoying. One time I even forgot what I was saying while speaking, I'm not kidding. I was like - "yes that feature is very good .. (OMG, what feature was I talking about)". I'm sure this happens to everyone not just me ... (wait I minute, what was I writing about )...

I wish I had a dollar for every time I either actually or almost left a bag a shopping behind. Once I purchased over $100 worth of goods and left the lot behind and drove home. They packed it back on the shelves and I was able to come back later with the credit card receipt and they gave me the store receipt and let me go grab it all again.
Possibly personal stories I shouldn't be telling...

..i also do face the problems as you do ..For timebeing i used to taught i dont have a good memory.. but thanks for your thread..

I always make a joke about this. Whenever someone says to me that I have bad memory, I say its a miracle that I remember my own name.

I broke new levels of stupidity last night. Me and my friend work in the same company and we had to go to a friend's marriage. So I left my bike at office and went to the friend's house in his car and from there we went to the marriage. When we returned to his home, the bike was not there (how could it be, it was at the office). We both thought its stolen (my friend is also like me, can't remember a thing). We looked for it here and there and then went to the police station to file a complaint . The cop was asking me questions about the bike like model etc and I realized the bike is at the office . We had to give the cop some excuses and we ran out of there to avoid him start trashing us...

I have this often too. At home, I'm telling myself "I have to remember to buy washing powder!", then I go to the supermarket and forget to buy washing powder. Standing in the shower, I think "When I'm done I have to write an e-mail to so-and-so!". Then, three minutes later, I've forgotten it already. Etcetera...

I don't know if it's lack of concentration. I'm usually very good at completely focussing on one task and forgetting everything that goes on around me.

have you ever needed to find two things, and you search and search and search, and finally find the first. Then you continue searching and searching, and you eventually find the second...only to forget where you put the first?

I am not too sure to say it is very common as I had not heard from many people. But I had undergone 1 or 2 times. . It is because not just lack of concentration or lack of sleep. It may be due to the hijacking of thoughts . Yes, for me at times it happened.

I have a maniac that when I start reading an article and whenever there is a hyperlink, my next immediate action would be to click on the link and start reading that. Very rarely I had come back to the original post and completed that. Of late, I had been working on reducing the temptation to immediately click on the new hyperlink until it is really necessary!

Have you come across this? :P

What it DOES have in common with other books is that the cover and many pages of roughly the same size are bound together. Other than that it's... odd...

Hmm you are actually right Arun. There are so many threads going on inside the brain, that some of the threads don't get any CPU time and we tend to forget that thing. And when that thread actually gets the CPU time, its too late

yesterday noon I was trying to enter to my home with bike , but one car is parked in front of my home gate . so I decided to park my bike in the street, after a while I decided to take my bike into my home. but I forgot. the whole night my bike was in that street. luckily no one stolen it.

While the science isn't 100% yet, it's looking more and more like, even if you're young and you've been brought up to "multitask", human brains aren't actually very good at multitasking. Simply put, we can process only one thing at a time, and every time we switch to another "thread" we lose some cycles. Not only that, but habitual multitasking erodes our ability for long term focus. The book I mentioned is about helping you regenerate your ability to focus.

Interesting. An elderly friend of the family who did MBA, worked in Wall Street in the 80s, but then had an accident with his brain was in a Doctor's waiting room, observing a family of three, Father (doctor), Mother(sporty, with a bright pink vest and ski pants), and Daughter(high school senior).

All three of them were talking with each other while using their Blackberries/smart-phones to do something else. Later he commented that they were the most intelligent people he had seen, doing multiple things at once. True, the girl, it seems scored 1580 out of 1600 on SAT college entrance exam.

No doubt that humans can *simulate* multitasking, and no doubt smart people can simulate it better, but the science is showing that even smart people are losing a lot of cycles in the process. In other words, the the girl's IQ is 150, it probably drops to 130 when she's multitasking (I just made those numbers up). To the casual observer, 130 still looks pretty good.

Hopefully,you have develop Algorithm to execute priority threads first,than later other threads(Habit)

Looks like you are locks-based multithreading, hard to achieve and many deadlocks. Try actors or STM programming.
You know, I'm on the other side, I don't forget a thing, I can remember so much details including the time and date, folks evolved, what they were wearing and what they were saying.
Sometimes I even count the lines in any shape around me like a car, table and just anything (this drove me crazy in the past ).

Best way to avoid these type of mistake do mediation and concentrate your mind by doing mediation with thoughtless. Always think like that my memory is strong. actually we know all things but we do not remember at right point. so we try do to these above practices definitely you all over come from this issue .
