Hello,

We are facing the an issue in our application which is deployed as a webservice. Service is being invoked by an external application - which is on a different server & is built .NET. Service works fine and processes all the incoming requests but in some scenario, it starts throwing the exception as below:

Lookup of service 'Application_Process' failed.
java.lang.NullPointerException
com.blazesoft.server.local.NdLocalServerException: Server 'Application_Process' on host '
pmasm602508'.

Following this, none of the incoming applications are processed. This exception msg is repeated for each such requests. Every time we need to restart the service and it then processes all the application including those for which it had thrown an exception earlier.

Please guide.

Thanks

Hi!
Obviously, you need to find out exactly under which circumstances the problem appear.
I would use the following strategy:
- Implement a handler on the server side that logs all incoming requests and the message payloads.
- Run the service until the problem occurs.
- Examine the logs to find which message was received immediately prior to the problem occurring.
- Restart the service and try to send only the message found in the previous step using soapUI or other test tool.

If you are able to reproduce the problem after the above, then you are set for debugging the service etc by stepping through the code.
Hopefully you also have more detailed logs (than submitted with your question) in which you can look for the code in which the error occurs. If not, you could add more extensive logging using AOP or similar.
Best wishes!

Hi,

Thanks you for the valuable inputs. I just have another point to cite. When my service on app-server is restarted multiple time, it throws OutOfMemory error. At this point, we need to restart the entire server and it is effecting the other deployed services running on it. Can there be possibilites of Memory management issues cause this?

Thanks & Regards,

Hi!
You mean that, after multiple redeployments of a web application, the server will have an out of memory error?
Does the log say anything about perm gen space?
I know that this is a problem that Tomcat used to have (still has?) and the best way to avoid this problem is to restart the server after each redeploy.
A text on the matter (related to Tomcat) can be found here: http://wiki.apache.org/tomcat/OutOfMemory
Best wishes!

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
