Can we include in the resume , the awards and appreciations that we received for our work in the project ?

I think so, yes. But it depends on the space available; it is more serious to overrun the permitted space than to miss out an award.

I very much think so. In my view achievements, appreciations, and awards are more important than just describing what you did. If they are very relevant, I would have them summarized in the first page itself to capture the reader's attention. If the first page is not interesting, the subsequent pages won't get much attention at all.
