Hello Jeff,

What are your thongs on Android fragmentation. Fragmentation is something to fear or to embrace? Fragmentation demands developers to spend more time in making their app compatible for different Android versions and hardwares too. Have you addressed this topic in your book?

Thanks,

Hi Vicky,

I have not addressed the topic of fragmentation in my book. Instead, the book focuses on presenting thorough coverage of the Java language and foundational APIs (such as collections and regular expressions) as a preparation for diving into Android. I say very little about Android specifically; there is a small example in Chapter 10 and a few Android-oriented items elsewhere.

However, I am currently writing a new book on Android for Apress. In this new book, I will cover the topic of fragmentation. In the meantime, Google's Android Developer's Guide provides useful information on compatibility that you may find helpful. You might also find the Android Developers Google Group helpful in this matter.

All the best.

Jeff

Patience, patience. Jeff Friesen is a busy person, with lots of other questions to ask, and is here at his own volition, and being very helpful to us (thank you). There is no need for reminders about your question.
